Dan is a native of Dallas, Texas.  He and his father have made the Tomlin name synonymous with successful land investments and land development in the North Texas area. After graduating from Hillcrest High School Dan  attended Texas Christian University, where he received a BBA degree, and continued his education at Southern Methodist University where he received his MBA degree, with honors.

Dan Jr. began his career in the land investment and development field in 1970.  Dan Jr. focuses on the team’s research, strategic planning, investment analysis and transactional activity at both the project and entity level including the formulation and implementation of land management objectives.  He has provided land asset management services to individuals, partnerships, corporations, banks and pension funds both domestic and foreign.

From the fall of 1988 until 1996 Dan Jr. was appointed and served on the Board of Real Estate Center at the Wharton School of Business.  In March of 1988 he was appointed Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany and was honored as Dean of the Dallas/Fort Worth Consular Corps from 1992 until 1994.  In February 2002 he received the Order of Merit awarded by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
